Diving into pants and swimwear, I realized that it’s been a while since I have sewn a basic. As my sewing skills improve, I always try to take on challenging projects to learn new techniques and try making new types of garments like swimwear and hopefully lingerie some day. However, it is also nice to go for an easier project once in a while just for the fun of it. Also, sewing basics really allows for creativity, you can divide up your pattern, use different colors and experiment with different kinds of fabrics that you did not try before.
I came across the toaster sweater pattern because it is part of the #SewMyStyle project organized by Blue Bird fabrics. The company collaborates with several indie pattern makers to raise “awareness about the slow fashion movement” and encourage “young women to take up sewing.” The participants are asked to sew one garment each month. This month’s pattern, the toaster sweater, is designed by Sew House Seven.
So here is my version of the toaster sweater. I did size M. I wanted to add a bit of twist to this basic so I divided up the pattern to use different shades of grey. My fabric is footer cotton which is super comfy.
This is really a great pattern if you want to add a basic to your wardrobe. Since I made it, I already wore it twice. The instructions on the pattern are very clear and explanatory.
My favorite parts of the pattern are the neckline and the vents on the side. I think that these really add to the look of the garment.
